The program will feature Jeffrey Sarles speaking on “Arbitrating NAFTA Claims – A Golden Opportunity for Chicago International Lawyers". His remarks and the ensuing discussion will focus on the international arbitration opportunities presented by NAFTA Chapter 11. He also will address strategic considerations when representing a private party against one of the NAFTA governments and recurring issues in this specific type of arbitration.

Jeffrey Sarles is a partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw and Co-Chair of the firm’s Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Group. He has extensive experience in representing companies in court in cases involving arbitration issues as well as in domestic and international arbitration proceedings, among others before the AAA, ICC, ICSID, Center for Public Resources and under the UNCITRAL Rules. An active supporter of arbitration as a means to resolve international commercial and investment disputes, he regularly lectures on this topic and has taught for the past decade a seminar in arbitration law at Northwestern University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
